Samsung Captivate ships in less than two weeks
AT&T today firmed up its launch plans for the Samsung Captivate. Its new headlining Android phone should ship July 18 and will cost $199 when tied to a two-year contract. Unlike other carriers, AT&T's example won't require a rebate to get the full discount.
The Captivate is based on the same Galaxy S platform that will reach all other carriers and shares the four-inch, outdoor-friendly Super AMOLED touchscreen as well as the 1GHz Hummingbird processor, five-megapixel camera with 720p video, and 16GB of internal storage. Bluetooth 3.0 and 802.11n Wi-Fi also translate to this version, although AT&T is likely to block non-Market apps where all its competitors won't.
Android 2.1 will still come standard, but all Galaxy S variants will get Android 2.2 at an undefined point in the future.
