Later patch to add 3D photo support

Sony's 3D Blu-ray update for its PS3 consoles will reportedly arrive sometime in September, potentially several weeks earlier than the original announcement that pointed to the fall. The company will also be following up the first update with a second revision bringing support for 3D photos that use the .mpo format.

The second patch will allow users to take pictures on their 3D-capable cameras and then view the content from a PS3 and 3D-compatible televisions. The feature will extend to two new CyberShot models that can capture 3D panoramic images.

"We think games are going to be the killer content for 3D", Sony Computer Entertainment Europe senior director Mick Hocking told Pocket-lint. "In general, we find that 3D enhances all types of games. There are no types that it doesn't bring a benefit to."

Hocking also disclosed several games to be developed in 3D, including Killzone 3, Motorstorm Apocalypse, and Gran Turismo 5.
