Two Acer Android tablets to arrive this fall?

PC maker Acer will begin selling its seven-inch tablet and a previously unmentioned 10-inch model in the fall of 2010, sources in the notebook industry claimed today. As suspected in the past, the slates will run on ARM chips and use Android, and the company is in negotiations with cellular providers to market and possibly subsidize the prices. The twosome is said by DigiTimes to have Android 2.2 and support Adobe Flash, along with other media playback features.

Acer already sells e-book readers and reportedly plans on cooperating with Far EasTone Telecommunications for selling them in Taiwan.

Having already shown a seven-inch tablet as a prototype just before the Computex show, little doubt has existed that at least the smaller model would arrive this year. The tablet promises to be some of the first major competition to the iPad, as virtually all tablets outside of the Samsung Galaxy Tab either come from small firms or won't arrive this year. Acer is currently the second largest notebook maker in the world after HP and is more likely to have the scale to compete with Apple, which already has over three million tablets in the market today.
