3D console will follow greater 3DTV adoption
Contrary to earlier reports, Nintendo general manager Shigeru Miyamoto claims the next Wii console is unlikely to feature 3D capabilities. In an interview with the German magazine Spiegel, Miyamoto suggested that it will take some time before a sufficient number of households have the 3DTVs necessary for a 3D-capable gaming system.
The executive claims that the 3DS is in a completely different situation, as it does not require users to purchase any additional equipment to take advantage of 3D gaming. After following advancements in 3D for the past 20 years, the company finally adopted the technology when it could be integrated without requiring glasses.
Miyamoto also argues that 3D is not just a gimmick for selling more consoles and games, as many players have a difficult time visualizing character movement in a 3D space presented on a 2D screen. Presenting the same scenarios on a 3D display is claimed to offer levels of depth impression that make such movements more natural. [via CrunchGear]
