Analyst claims Apple has iPhone 4 antenna fix already made

iPhone 4 may have permanent design fix already

Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar in an investor note today made the potentially large claim that Apple already has a permanent design fix for the iPhone 4 antenna issues that prompted a sudden press conference this week. Checks through suppliers hint that Apple has a design fix that "more adequately insulates the transceiver module" through what's described as an "internal bumper" that shields it without affecting the look. Independently, Kumar believes Apple will give its bumper cases out for free as a stopgap for early adopters, although he wouldn't speculate whether Apple would recall earlier models.

Apple hasn't commented and isn't expected to have any more statements until its Friday media session.

Rumors have persisted almost since launch that Apple might already have a fix and is simply waiting on later production runs to solve it. A coating has been raised as a possibility, although as the problem is triggered by the electricity from fingers, such a solution isn't certain.

A fix could be urgent to prevent an image problem for Apple that cuts short its iPhone sales. Many now don't believe its initial claims that it was simply a signal reporting issue, and the flaw has now reached the mainstream media through David Letterman, the BBC's Top Gear and advertising from rivals like Motorola.

The only good comment from Steve would be, "I apologize for my earlier statement on how to not hold the new iPhone. The original design did contain an element that sacrificed function for form and we have resolved the issue. I realize that I can act like a DB at times and will work at being more compassionate toward others. Please pickup your complementary bumper, download the iOS4.1 update and enjoy your new iPhone4. Oh, one more thing, we realize that 3G owners are experiencing issues with the new software and I assure you that the iOS4.1 update will speed up your older phone and make your experience more pleasant."

And now for a more realistic expectation. Steve will blame the Chinese manufacturer on their execution of the design and he "hopes" that the update will remedy our problems. Please standby...fingers crossed.

Since most of this uproar has been created

by anti-Apple bloggers, no matter what Apple does short of wrapping the metal in plastic will the iPhone 4 hate campaign go away. The iPhone 4 will probably look the same so bloggers will swear absolutely nothing has been done and the conference is just a cover-up. No matter what Steve says, the iHating bloggers will call him a liar and a cheat and will continue their tirade until they find some other fault with the iPhone. If you notice that the yellow spots on the iPhone 4 display issue has been forgotten, so it may be time for the iHaters to start up with that issue again. The mentality of these iHating bloggers just don't allow them to stop their foolish FUD nonsense.

Re: Since most of this uproar

Actually, I'm an avid Apple user who has or has owned dozens of their products over the years form desktops to laptops to iPod, phones and even Apple TV. So I don't consider myself a "hater" when I say how disappointed I am in both the iPhone 4 (had 3 of then sent to me over the period) and the response from Apple.

I'm not about to say this is a universal problem for any iPhone 4 user, but the same should be said in response to posts like these that slam those with problems. There are those of us who WANT our iPhone 4 to be great, but it's NOT. I had the "No SIM Installed" bug, I had loose backing problem, I had the proximity sensor issue hanging up or dialing numbers during calls, and I had the reception issue...for me a left-handed user, unavoidable. I tried 3 different phones until I had AT&T refund me complete.

That may be the simple way to resolve this issue is to refund, but don't be condescending in stating that it's user paranoia or ineptness that is the root of these issues. It's NOT!

    I've wondered.w91t.com/ wiDth=

If you could solve the problem with a thin layer of clear enamel? A clear nail polish or polyurethane like you use seal wood.

Not that I know of anyone that would try this out on their brand new iPhone. Nonetheless it would be an interesting experiment.

Are you really that delusional? Are you sure it isn't you who are seeing anti-apple bias in any report that happens to cover this story? Is any negative apple story the product of anti-apple bias? Could there not be any truth to the rumor that there might be antenna issues?

And I'm sure there's no pro-Apple bias in any of your statements that this has been completely overblown, either. Right?

In fact, what Apple should do is don't sell iPhones to anyone who wants one, for all those people are apparently buying it so they can complain about reception issues. What Apple should do is only sell the phones to those who have no interest in it at all.

    Maybe

there didn't have to be a fix in the first place. The problem was predicted but the quest for some "brilliant engineering" had to take priority. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-07-15/apple-engineer-said-to-have-told-jobs-last-year-about-iphone-antenna-flaw.html

Steve Jobs can add to his list: "If you have to put your phone in a case to make calls... You blew it"

Whatever they say tomorrow about the issue and how they're going to fix it, they'll be cheered by the fanboys as showing their attention to their customers (ignoring the fact they've basically have ignored them for the past several weeks).

Re: Re: since most of this uproar

How does being left handed make it "unavoidable"? You should never hold a phone in such a way that it covers the antenna, if you know the antenna is at the bottom, why do you hold it at the bottom? I think the only unavoidable thing is that people want to find any flaw with an apple product because they aren't used to the company being such a big player, and to many apple is a totally new untested thing, finding a "flaw" makes it easy to step back into their traditional tech habits. It's the same thing with energy saving technology for your home, there's an innate risk in trying something new, even if it is for the best/beneficial. Some folks are genuinely uneasy about a company that their first experience is a cell phone in a world of misinformed "pc lovers" that have nothing good to say about apple then they see this circus unfold. I've been a mac user for a long time and i've had my share of wrangling with customer relations & executive relations & idiot elitist retail store staff, but here i am, with my macs, my iPods, my iPhone 3G (soon to be iPhone 4) because apple's stuff is better for me than the competition. Yes, some of their ideas are before their time and because the ideas are breaking new ground some issues can crop up from an engineering vs real world situation. I don't let these issues get in the way of a truly better experience, i have a grasp on engineering that allows me to be at ease with technology that may have some small problem vs "OH EM GEE DESIGN FLAW RECALL EMERGENCY PRESS CONFERENCE AHHHH SELL STOCK APPLE IS GOING OUT OF BUSINESS".

When apple comes out with an actually c*** product, i'll advise against it, however in my 18 years of mac/apple product using i have never had to. The iPhone 4 is brilliant, and i'm sorry you found every excuse to not give it a chance, your loss.
