Retail inventories unclear

Verizon appears to have already sold out of its online stock for the Droid X smartphone. Although early orders shipped on schedule, the company's website now lists the flagship device with a promised ship date of July 23.

The carrier expected to have enough stock to satisfy initial demand. It is unclear if many of the retail outlets have also encountered supply problems. Reports suggested certain locations faced lineups of customers, however the strong presence did not appear to be consistent across every region.

The Droid X sells for $199 for new contracts or upgrade-eligible accounts.
