LG outs first 3D notebook, monitor, projector
LG Electronics on Monday showed off its first 3D notebook, the 15.6-inch XNote R590 3D, along with a 3D gaming monitor and 3D projector. The notebook, like the non-3D version, is powered by a Core i7 CPU and has a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M graphics chipset. Polarized 3D glasses are included; LG unusually relies on passive shutters to reduce weight and eye fatigue.
The notebook has SRS Tru-Surround HD compatibility and TriDef software to convert 2D video to 3D in real time. A Blu-ray drive is optional. The R590 3D is due in LG's home market of Korea in July, with a global release due soon after. Pricing hasn't been set.
Also introduced was the W63D 3D gaming monitor. It has a 1080p resolution along with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 70,000:1 contrast ratio. LG claims that its copper panel electrodes achieve a high brightness ratio of 400 cd/mē. A gaming mode, called G-mode, optimizes the setup process for gaming. There are built-in speakers with SRS Tru-Surround HD support. The W63D is said to now be shipping worldwide.
The last newly announced product from LG is the CF3D HD 3D projector. It is the first to use a dual engine and a single lens and uses polarized glasses to deliver 1080p 3D images. It can throw images up to 200 inches in size, with 3D image brightness said to be 1,250 lumens. At 2D, this is doubled. The contrast ratio is relatively high at 7,000:1. LG will ship the projector with six pairs of polarized 3D glasses.
