Palm patents PalmPad name for its tablet?

The upcoming webOS-powered tablet HP said it would build after acquiring Palm may be called PalmPad. A newly discovered USPTO trademark application filed earlier this month by HP refers to it by the previously unknown name. The PalmPad tablet could theoretically be launched as early as this year, though this isn't confirmed.

Previous rumors have appeared for an HP webOS tablet nicknamed the Hurricane, though whether this is the PalmPad or something else altogether isn't certain.

Before the acquisition, HP revealed plans to bring Palm's webOS software beyond smartphones, and into smartphones, tablets and netbooks. Using a mobile OS for tablets gives them superior battery life and reduces costs. [via PreCentral]

Um. How in the world are they going to compete with the inevitable barrage of the Microsoft whatever, the Google Android-based whatever and eventual Apple iPad 2?
