Project said to be driven by former Google workers

Chinese search engine company Baidu is allegedly considering a foray into the mobile OS market to compete against rivals such as Android. The company is said to be working on an open-source system, however specific details remain unclear, according to an InformationWeek report.

The endeavor was allegedly considered following Google's dispute with the Chinese government over search results censorship. The project is said to be headed by former Google workers who departed after the censorship conflict.

If Baidu goes forward with its supposed plans, a mobile OS is expected to bolster the company's position in the mobile search market. [via Barrons]
