Toshiba to release tablet in the fall as the Smart Pad?

Toshiba touchscreen tablet due in October

At a press event in Australia, Toshiba's Marketing Director Mark Whittard announced the company is working on a touchscreen tablet. Whether it will be powered with Windows 7, like the Libretto W100 that the company showed earlier, or Android, like the AC100 Smartbook, hasn't been revealed. There is the slight chance that both operating systems may be preloaded, though this isn't likely, or that there will be two different models offered.

Whittard referred to the upcoming device as a Smart Pad, and he was showing off a prototype. While not many specifications were revealed, Whittard did confirm it will have both an HDMI output and a USB port. The touchscreen will have a digitizer and multi-touch capability. The tablet is due out in October, Whittard said, though pricing wasn't discussed. [via NetbookNews]
