Plextor outs portable, external Blu-ray drive

Plextor on Wednesday released a new wave of external Blu-ray disc drive, the PX-B120U. It's entirely USB powered but still reads Blu-ray discs at 4X. Cyberlink Power DVD software is included with the drive to play either HD movies or to upscale standard definition to a similar level of quality.

The drive uses a top-load mechanism and will also be compatible with Plextor's upcoming PlexMedia player, which will allow for PC-free access to multimedia content. Both were shown at Computex in June. Plextor prices the PX-B120U at $100 in the US.
