Firefox 4 to have Mac OS X-style tabs
Mozilla developer Aza Raskin today previewed an upcoming addition to Firefox 4 that will bring some of Apple's OS concepts to tabs. Tab Candy will organize groups of tabs in Spaces-like environments that keep them separate; the trick would let a user keep only news or only social networking tabs visible. Other tabs would remain active in the background.
Mac OS X's Expose app switcher would also have a parallel. A bird's-eye view would show all groups at a glance. Mozilla would veer away from Apple's implementation, though, by giving the choice of resizing the different groups to give them different priorities.
Raskin didn't explain whether Firefox 4 would have Tab Candy by the time Firefox 4 leaves beta, but the interface will be a permanent feature of Firefox and not just an experimental feature. A test version of the browser with the feature is available today. [via TechCrunch]
