BBerry Bold 9780 a mild refresh due soon

RIM is now known to be working on a straight upgrade to the BlackBerry Bold 9700 through a scoop late last evening. The Bold 9780 would still go without a touchscreen, but it would come with BlackBerry OS 6.0 and come with 512MB of flash memory. A darker chrome trim is the only other obvious difference well-known leaker Salomondrin noticed on the smartphone.

Given updates expected for the BlackBerry 9800, 802.11n Wi-Fi, a five-megapixel camera and more RAM are likely additions to the design. No release schedule has been given for the 9780's release. RIM has hinted at a second phone launching in the quarter besides the 9800, but as the 9780 has only just appeared, a summer launch is less certain. RIM launched the Bold 9700 in earnest by the fall of last year and may wait until then for its upgrade.
