Acer S1 displays just half-inch thick

Acer this morning brought its thinnest desktop displays to a US audience. The S1 series is built on minimalism and has both thin bezels as well as a slim frame: the screen is never thicker than 0.6 inches. All of the available screens also have pure white LED backlights and a very high 12,000,000:1 claimed dynamic contrast ratio matched to a 5ms pixel response time and 250cd/m2 brightness.

Three S1 models make up the initial line and start with the 20-inch, 1600x900 S211HL. In 21.5-inch and 23-inch (S211HL and S31HL) versions, the resolution increases to 1080p. All three have both DVI and VGA, while the largest model adds HDMI.

The LCDs should be available shortly at prices of $170, $220 and $270.
