Dell brings Athlon Neo Inspiron M101z to the UK

Dell will soon replace the 11.6-inch Inspiron 11z with the Inspiron M101z. It comes powered by either a 1.7GHz single-core or 1.3GHz dual-core Athlon II Neo, unlike the outgoing 11z's 1.2GHz Celeron. It offers a 500GB hard drive, with Windows 7 pre-loaded and as much as 8GB of RAM.

The screen retains the same 1366x768 resolution, and there is an HDMI port for connecting to larger, more capable displays. More importantly, its six-cell lithium-ion battery is claimed to provide 6 hours and 36 minutes of battery life, with a nine-cell battery optional. Wi-Fi and a 1.3-megapixel camera are standard, and Bluetooth is optional. The system weighs 3.44lbs.

US pricing is not yet available, and the UK model's £379 tax-included price tag exchanges to $584. [via StudentBuyingGuide]

One last word of comfort though on the failure rate of budget systems, on the plus side, the failures are similar to hard-drives. They tend to have an obvious issue very early on (and thus under warranty), and if not, the failure rate plummets until they get quite old again.
