Hints drop of new iMacs, Mac Pro, 27-inch display tomorrow

Gruber alludes new Mac desktop refresh tomorrow

Apple's rumored desktop Mac refresh may come as soon as tomorrow if a hint is any indication. Historically accurate John Gruber implied in the notice for a new podcast episode that the new iMacs, new Mac Pros and a 27-inch Cinema Display could all be available on Tuesday. The details are few but are expected, as the iMac would be a "speed-bump" while the display would have the same 16:9 ratio screen as the 27-inch iMac.

The Xeon 5600, and the system is likely to be one of the first with FireWire 1600 or 3200 as well as USB 3.0. Radeon HD 5000 and GeForce 400 graphics are also very likely upgrades.

The iMac will be more conservative, but it should scrap the Core 2 Duo for lower-cost Core i3 and Core i5 processors while upgrading to faster quad-core chips at the high-end. New graphics as well as the faster FireWire and USB are also considered probable.

A Cinema Display upgrade is likely to be a larger version of the 24-inch display introduced in late 2008, but more expansion and a lower price point are both considered possibilities.

    The dual-link display adapter...

...or a direct connection needs to work with this 27" display, as the current display adapter (fw1.03) is still exhibiting wide reports of several types of distortion with many customers according to:

Since it's using the same panel as the Dell...

...let's hope Apple only asks for twice as much:)
