iPad engraving may come by holidays

iPad getting customization later
Apple could give the iPad the same engraving option as an iPod if a rumor from an untested source is true. Claiming a contact in Apple staff, Erictric understands the option should come by the holiday season. The company has wanted the option earlier but has been stymied by very high demand that has prevented it from slowing down production for engraving purposes.
The option would most likely be free, as less expensive iPods already have engraving.
Apple's option would be the first of its kind for a mainstream tablet but would reflect the design. The anodized aluminum back would make laser etching the display comparatively easy where other materials are too impractical to engrave. Production is already known to be fast-paced, as LG can't meet demand for the 9.7-inch IPS display used in the iPad.

Engraving...so clever!
Of course, free engraving was a brilliant marketing device that made (and makes) it more difficult to resell the device when you decide to upgrade, are short of cash or simply get bored. You didn't think it was actually for the customer's benefit, did you?
