Verizon landlines, AT&T wireless out in Manhattan

A Verizon digital cross connect box that directs network traffic has been damaged due to recent thunderstorms in Manhattan, cutting local landline service and affecting AT&T's cellular network. A report says Verizon maintains only a limited part of Manhattan is affected, ranging from the 20 series treats to the 40s between 5th Avenue and the east side of the borough. The area of the AT&T outage is even smaller.

A Verizon spokesperson told the WSJ that technicians are working on repairing the problem, but a fix date is unknown. AT&T primarily operates its own network in New York City but can rely on others for cellular data.
