Dell prices Streak at 549, sets Aero's ATT date
Dell today finally detailed its American launch plan for its Streak tablet. The device will be available for sale tomorrow but will be less expensive than the 3G-capable iPad when it goes on sale. An unlocked version that can be freely used with any GSM carrier will cost $549; a version locked to AT&T with a two-year contract will sell for $299.
The Android 1.6 device is considered Dell's closest competitor to the Apple tablet until the started and will give both expedited two-day shipping as well as the option of a Bluetooth headset at a 99-cent promo price.
The Texas PC builder also narrowed down the launch of the Aero, its first American smartphone. The design, now several months old, should reach AT&T on August 9. Pricing is low at $100 on a contract and $300 off, though the phone runs Android 1.6 and won't be upgraded to Android 2.x until later.

Costs less than iPad
But it's also much smaller with a 5" screen vs. a 9.7" screen. Why wouldn't it cost less. It also ships with Android 1.6. That's like the iPad shipping with iOS 2.0.
