HTC pushing into China with new Android, Win Mo phones

HTC sells under own name in mainland China

HTC on Tuesday made its first serious push into mainland China by planning to launch phones under its own name. Instead of launching phones through Dopod, the Taiwan area smartphone maker will ship phones directly. It plans to launch the Desire and Wildfire as well as two China-specific phones, the Windows Mobile 6.5-based Tianxi and entry-level, Android-based Tianyi.

The company is also striking a deal with China Mobile today and should support its self-developed TD-SCDMA 3G network with devices. It's not known whether any of the phones planned today will already support the standard. China's largest electronics distributor, GOME, will help HTC sell its phones across the country.

Ship dates and prices for the phones weren't mentioned.
