Official launch expected soon

Cricket Wireless has begun accepting reservations for Kyocera's Zio smartphone, which was first unveiled early this year at CTIA. The handset represents Kyocera's first Android offering and a return to the smartphone arena after several years.

The Zio features a standard set of smartphone features including a 3.5-inch display with 800x480 resolution, a microSDHC slot, accelerometer, digital compass and trackball. The device is still expected to target budget-conscious consumers, who will have to settle for a 3.2-megapixel camera and 256MB of internal storage.

Earlier leaks suggested the Zio would carry a retail price of $300 without a contract. Customers can sign up at Cricket's website to reserve a Zio, which will be shipped overnight for free when it becomes available. [via Android Community]
