Android 2.2 to reach HTC, Motorola Droid phones August 6?

Verizon seen making simultaneous Froyo updates

Verizon may plan its Android 2.2 updates to occur all at once if a claim today is accurate. Both HTC and Motorola would push out the new Google OS such that the Droid Incredible, Droid X and original Droid would all get 2.2 starting from August 6. All of the devices would be finished updating just over a week later, on August 15.

The Droid Eris and Devour aren't known to be getting Android 2.2 and are likely hardware-limited to 2.1 or earlier.

AndroidSpin's source for the story insists the schedule is "confirmed" and not a rumor. Motorola is known to be using Android 2.2 from the outset on the Droid 2, giving credence to beliefs that Verizon wants all its most advanced Android devices running the new platform by the end of next month. The upgrade brings much improved speed for apps and web browsing as well as support for Flash 10.1 and "intents" pushed from the web to the phone.
