ZumoCast promises personal media cloud
ZumoDrive, the creators of a namesake remote storage iOS app, today started taking signups for a public beta of ZumoCast. The service creates an effective personal cloud for the iPad, iPhone and web by allowing shares of music, photos and videos online: a companion Mac or Windows app greenlights individual files or whole folders. Formats are transcoded on the fly before going through to the iOS app or browser and will save the trouble of converting files online.
The gateway requires that the host machine be turned on and connected for its full streaming, but it supports a local media cache to play videos offline. It doesn't recognize copy protected formats but will auto-adapt the streaming bitrate depending on the quality of mobile hardware's Internet connection.
ZumoCast is currently in a private beta, but ZumoDrive is taking sign-ups for access to a more public test. Use is free during the beta stage but may carry a charge when the final service is available. More mobile platforms should have access soon.

A Much Needed App
I can't wait to check out this app. I'm very much interested in streaming video to my iPad. I was reading about it on http://iPadLot.com and it seems like an app that will become very popular.
