LG to bring WP7 phone in September, more in 2010

An LG representative has, once again, confirmed that a Windows Phone 7-powered handset is due in September. That handset is expected to be called the Pacific, though this hasn't been confirmed. At the same time, however, the company said more WP7 devices are coming before year's end.

"We have a deep relationship with Microsoft so expect to have a couple by the end of this year," said LG rep Ken Hong in Seoul on Wednesday. But LG will also commit resources to other phone operating systems, including Android and other Linux-based platforms, Hong said.

LG is the third largest cellphone maker, behind Nokia and Samsung but has been facing trouble. Its phone shipments are slowly increasing, but it has fallen into losses as a lack of smartphones has let Apple, RIM and other smaller companies grow much faster. Most of LG's efforts in the past year have focused on Android with only token efforts spent on Windows Mobile. [via PCWorld]
