Super Talent SSD works internally and externally

Super Talent has unveiled what's claimed as a first dual-role solid-state drive in the field. The UltraDrive MX can slot inside a computer as a typical 2.5-inch SATA II drive but also has a mini USB port to work as an external drive. With both, a user could run the MX as a primary drive but transfer data to a new machine like a typical backup.

Regardless of purpose, the drive is at the higher end of performance with a recent JMicron memory controller that peaks at 250MB per second in read speeds and 180MB when writing. It recognizes TRIM commands to keep the drive running at peak speeds as it fills up over time.

Prices haven't been mentioned, but the new UltraDrive will ship September 1 and will come in 60GB, 120GB, 240GB and 480GB capacities.
