Galaxy S phones to get Android 2.2 in September
Samsung UK has responded to questions from its many buyers by revealing on Twitter that the Galaxy S will get an Android 2.2 firmware update in September. The company says the handset on "all networks" will get the update. It potentially corroborates what Samsung US said late in June, though it's unclear whether Samsung meant worldwide or only in the UK.
In the US, the Galaxy S is already available as the Captivate on AT&T and the Vibrant at T-Mobile. It's due soon as the Fascinate on Verizon and the Epic 4G at Sprint, but whether it ships with 2.2 or will need an upgrade isn't as clear.
The Galaxy S phones, regardless of country, sport four-inch Super AMOLED touchscreens and 1GHz processors. Except for the Epic 4G, they measure less than 10mm thick and can play back 720p videos. Android 2.2 will bring with it Flash 10.1 support among speed boosts and other minor updates.
