Sprint's Evo 4G to mate with car dock in September

Sprint's imminent Android 2.2 update for the Evo 4G has been spoiled with word that it will also have a surprise car dock feature. What this will involve wasn't said, but Engadget was told that a custom dock for the Android flagship would arrive sometime in September. Motorola's dock for the Droid turns it into an alarm clock in addition to charging the phone.

Some shots have emerged of the update itself. While they don't show the car dock features, they do show unique features such as the option of sharing unprotected apps from a phone's SD card to others, either nearby or online. Owners can now edit MMS picture slideshows and send contact information over MMS as a vCard file. The flashlight app, which uses the camera's built-in flash for illumination, has a visual representation of a flashlight on the touchscreen.

A handful of customers may get the Android 2.2 upgrade as early as today, but most will start seeing it sometime on August 3. It primarily brings speed improvements, support for Flash 10.1 and the ability to install or move apps to the SD card instead of internal memory.
