Moto Droid gets Android 2.2 manual download
Motorola and Verizon today started pushing out the promised update to Android 2.2. While it's unknown how many are getting the over-the-air upgrade, a manual download (ZIP, instructions) is already available to install for those willing to risk a less certain update process themselves. All Droids should run 2.2 within days regardless of the download.
Android 2.2 won't support tethering due to a since-disputed Verizon claim that the hardware doesn't support it, but it will still bring camera, system and web browser speed improvements, the option to install Flash 10.1 and more control over where apps are installed. Bluetooth voice dialing and other upgrades are also on tap.
Most of Motorola's more advanced devices should have 2.2 by the end of the month, and the HTC Droid Incredible may get an update in a similar timeframe. The Droid's international equivalent, the Milestone, should have an update of its own but hasn't been locked down for a particular date.
