4G hotspot supports up to eight devices
Clear is offering an Apple-themed version of its Spot 4G mobile router. Known as the iSpot, the pocket device is billed as "Apple-friendly" and supporting the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. However, the iSpot doesn't offer any additional Apple-specific functionality and still supports other Wi-Fi devices.
The Spot 4G and iSpot 4G are both WiMAX-only routers that create a mobile WiFi hotspot supporting up to eight devices. The Spot 4G and iSpot include 64-bit and 128-bit WEP, WPA, and WPA2 security, and an internal four-hour rechargable battery. The routers run from a standard AC outlet or an optional 12V car adapter. The only difference between the two models appears to be the color of the case.
Clear is selling the iSpot 4G for $29. A full mobile plan costs $40 per month but provides unlimited access over 4G, although Clear is giving the iSpot a $25 per month plan.
