HTC Glacier may pack dual cores enroute to T-Mobile

HTC Glacier may be T-Mobile's Project Emerald

T-Mobile's Project Emerald may be a different device than the HTC Vision but could still be the fastest phone ever, tests show. A new HTC device, the Glacier, was spotted in since-pulled online GLBenchmark results outperforming every existing smartphone in sheer CPU power. With a score of 1,432, the Glacier was over 67 percent faster than a Motorola Droid X and 41 percent faster than an iPhone 4; only the Samsung Vibrant came close.

The testing spotted by AlienBabelTech doesn't automatically confirm specs but backs rumors of a dual-core HTC Android flagship as even the 1GHz single-core Evo 4G doesn't match the claims. That the Vibrant almost matches it suggests Samsung's own 1GHz single-chip processor is much faster per clock, but HTC may be compensating for any weakness in performance with a second core. Qualcomm recently shipped dual-core Snapdragon samples to companies that will use them.

T-Mobile isn't mentioned by name, but the tester, Mike Bibik, is a Senior Interaction Designer at the carrier and has submitted nothing but T-Mobile Android phones to GLBenchmark.

The Glacier's release date is unknown, but it may also be the promised HSPA+ phone and if so could be the myTouch 3G HD due later in the year.
