Incorporates 3D camera and glasses-free display
A spokesman for Sharp said the company will launch a new smartphone by the end of the year that will incorporate its glasses-free 3D display technology. The phone will also use Sharp's 3D mobile camera. Sharp's 3D displays are well-suited to electronic devices because they require a fixed viewing distance and angle.
Sharp is Japan's largest mobile phone maker, but has had difficulty breaking into the advanced phone segment. Earlier this year Sharp introduced the Microsoft-branded Kin, but with less than 10,000 sales had to bow out just over six weeks into business. Most of the blame has been pinned on Microsoft, as an insistence on an OS switch that lost a major discount on Verizon plans both delayed the phone and made it as expensive to use as superior smartphones.
