Sanyo adds new 1080p-capable underwater Xacti

Sanyo this morning rolled out its latest fully waterproof camcorder. The Xacti VPC-CA102 is sealed to where it can record its 1080p video or 14-megapixel still shots in up to 10 feet of water. While similar on the surface to the earlier CA100, it has a new lens that, while shorter-ranged at 5X, captures at a wider 38mm equivalent angle.

As with the other model, it still captures in H.264 and is designed to be easily used with a Mac. It can take SDXC cards of 64GB and beyond to store as much as eight hours of 1080p video on the camera, although the particular vertical form factor only allows for about an hour of continuous filming on a single battery. Mini HDMI gives it video output at full resolution.

The CA102 should be in shops later this month and will cost $350.
