Dell Streak to ship with Android 2.2?

Dell's 5-inch Streak tablet may just ship with Android 2.2 in North America, according to a Twitter response from a Dell spokesperson. Lionel Menchaca wasn't definite but said that his information has the device sporting the latest Android OS in the US. Previously, the device launched on Friday was only known to be moving to 2.1 at a later point in the year.

The tablet has phone calling capabilities, and base models start at $550 at Dell without a contract. Options include peripherals such as Bluetooth headsets, microSD memory cards, docks for homes or cars and cases. The new, preliminary ship date for a Streak order on Dell's website is now August 17. It's unclear whether this reflects any high demand or if it reflects Dell's usual last-minute manufacturing and shipping schedule.
