Moto Droid 2 may face iPhone 4 signal issue

Motorola may have been dealt an ironic blow this weekend as Droid 2 owners have been facing signal drop problems. Reports from readers and on Verizon's forums have surfaced of the signal varying wildly without much effort required. It's unclear whether the hold affects it, but some have noticed poor service in good areas as well as dropped 3G, calls and Wi-Fi.

The issue is inconsistent, as some don't see the issue at all, but is widespread enough that it's both common and independent of any particular region. Verizon hasn't commented on the issue to explain whether it can be resolved in software. Droid X owners so far haven't reported similar problems.

A failure of the sort would be an embarrassment for Motorola in the light of repeated attempts to claim that its phones were immune from the same antenna issues that have dogged the iPhone 4. Apple's decision to use an external metal antenna has made it more sensitive than a traditional design, but the company until lately was stressing that many smartphones, including the Droid X, can encounter signal drops if held tightly in their antenna areas. Motorola is really trying to copy the iPhone 4

right down to the faults. I can't wait to see Motorola's CEO admitting that they really screwed up and he'll be willing to get on his hands and knees to beg forgiveness of Droid users everywhere. I honestly thought that only the iPhone 4 could have antenna and call dropping issues because Steve Jobs is an arrogant SOB. Also, exterior antennas are not something that smartphones should have since they go against standard antenna design and that's what causes iPhones everywhere to drop nearly 99% of all calls.

I'm sure Motorola will be able to blame Apple for this problem due to Steve's Reality Distortion Field. Gizmodo will say little except that this issue is being blown completely out of proportion by Android Haters funded by Apple.

Droid does... drop calls even without a "death grip". Any chance of Antennagate: The Sequel?
I hope the iHater Antennagate jackasses get bit on their asses by this one.

    It's a software problem....

Yeah that's it. A software problem.

Or maybe they're all holding the phone wrong?

    This going too far

This is all the work of Apple fanbois switching to Verizon, buying Droid 2 just to complain. As the article suggests, rational people don't have this reception issue.

    The problem is inconsistent

Only some users experience the problem, and only then, when they are holding the phone and attempting to use the phone.

The solution is to lay the phone on the table, and not to use it.

    overblown

Just another overblown, overhyped issue driven by the anti-Android press and consumers to spread FUD about the device. Has MS plot written all over it.
