Amex Digital shows smallest 1080p media player

Amex Digital has introduced what it's calling the smallest media player capable of playing back 1080p videos, the MP-501. Sized at about 0.6 by 6.9 by 5 inches, it packs an ARM Cortex-A8 processor and has support for nearly all common file formats. The files can be played from an inserted SD memory card or a USB drive.

Supported drive formats include FAT32, NTFS and HFS+. DRM-protected content from sources such as the iTunes Store, Amazon, Cinema Now and others cannot be played back, however. There is support for subtitles, playlists, audio tracks and photos. To get multi-channel surround sound from a digital output, users have to add an an audio receiver.

When the MP-501 ships is not known, but when it does, it will cost $49. [via Akihabara]

    uh ok

Cool, a "media player" you can take anywhere! Except you need to bring your own screen apparently. In which case, why do I care how tiny it is?
