T-Mobile G2 to be next major Google phone
T-Mobile today confirmed the existence of just its second halo Android phone today with a teaser page for the T-Mobile G2. The company didn't provide significantly more details but confirmed it would also be the first HSPA+ device on its network and an official "with Google" device. It's implied that the phone will use stock Android rather than T-Mobile's myTouch layer.
The mentions effectively confirm rumors that the G2 will be the HTC Vision, just the second HTC Android phone to have a keyboard. Aside from the 21Mbps 3G speeds, it will be not quite upscale with an 800MHz to 1GHz chip below Snapdragon performance. It may nonethless have a speed advantage as it should run Android 2.2 or later out of the box. A larger touchscreen and a trackpad instead of a trackball should give it a significant edge over the now discontinued G1.
It's still uncertain exactly when the G2 will ship, but the presence of a teaser page puts the release much closer than it had been in the past. [image via Engadget]
