Droid Pro identity still debated
Motorola's rumored Droid Pro is allegedly the same handset referenced as the Droid 2 World Edition, a source has told Engadget. The reason for the discrepancy remains unclear, as both labels appear to be worthy of official branding rather than an obvious code name. The source claims the World Edition is an exact replica of the current Droid 2, but with GSM/HSPA components integrated alongside the CDMA radio for Verizon's network.
A separate report suggests the Droid Pro and World Edition both surfaced in Verizon's inventory system with separate model numbers, A957 and A956. Yet another leak pointed to global roaming capabilities for the Droid Pro, which was said to also feature a larger screen and 1.3GHz CPU.
Aside from the Droid Pro debate, sources also claim LG is dropping its proprietary featurephone OS for the next enV Touch. The handset will allegedly run Android, while the hardware will be updated with an external and primary touchscreen.
The Droid 2 World Edition is expected to be launched sometime within the next few weeks, although pricing has yet to be leaked. The enV Touch 2 will reportedly take a bit longer to arrive on the market, potentially closer to the holidays.
