New Google Chrome devs to pay $5 fee for security

Google has announced all new developers will need to pay a one-time $5 fee to Google before their work is published on Google's galleries. The change is justified as better regulating the extensions, themes and upcoming apps. This should also help to keep the store safer, with less malicious content than before.

The fee is waived to established developers, but the fee for the new developers comes into effect on Thursday.

At the same time, Google is verifying domains, with all upcoming extensions and apps getting the ability to link back to their own domains. Google says it will then be able to verify extensions as official. [via TechCrunch]
