Allgo shows $50 Android tablet in India
A private company in India, Allgo, is showing off a prototype Android tablet that costs just $50 to build. The seven-inch tablet, dubbed Stamp, spent about 18 months in development and can wirelessly browse the web, run basic apps and playback audio and video files. Its resistive touchscreen display has a resolution of 800x480.
The head of five-year old Allgo, K. Srinivasan, says building 10,000 units in China would be required for the $50 price tag, while a production run of at least 1,000,000 would drop it further, to $40.
Exactly when or if the Stamp will be built is unknown, as the device is in prototype stages and Allgo needs investor money in order to produce the device in such quantities. [via Liliputing]
