Buffalo announces next-gen NAS DriveStations

Buffalo on Monday detailed the upcoming release of updated DriveStation Duo and DriveStation Quad direct attached storage. The latter replaces the DriveStation Quattro range, and a new Axis series of single-drive storage devices was also announced. The DriveStation Duo contains two eSATA 3.0 drives and has a USB 2.0 interface that supports up to 225MBps speeds. Tools are not require to remove or install the quick-swap drives, and they can be set up in either RAID 0 or 1 for either redundant backup or added capacity.

The DriveStation Quad can house up to four drives and supports RAID 0, 5, 10 and Normal modes. It ships preconfigured to RAID 5 for a balance of data redundancy and extra storage capacity. There is also USB 2.0 and an eSATA 3.0 interface, though it can muster slightly higher transfer rates of up to 235 MBps. An upgraded cooling system cools the drive, and a snap-off front plate allows for tool-free drive swaps.

The single-drive DriveStation Axis connects quickly via a USB port and can be placed vertically or horizontally. It ships with Buffalo Backup Utility that is Windows compatible.

The new DriveStation Duos ship in September priced at about $275 for the 2TB model and $455 for the 4TB version. The DriveStation Quads will be available in late August, with the 4TB version prices at about $625 and the 8TB model at $1,135. The DriveStation Axis also arrives in September, priced at nearly $105 for the 1TB, $125 for the 1.5TB and $170 for the 4TB models.
