Motorola shows updated Android upgrade schedule

Motorola has posted an Android software upgrade schedule on its support forums website detailing when users can expect to get their handsets freshened up. In the US, the Backflip is said to get the upgrade to Android 2.1 this summer, with the Cliq and Cliq XT getting it early in the fall or late in the summer, as it's currently undergoing testing. The Droid X will get the latest Android 2.2 software later this summer.

The regular Droid is getting Android 2.2 in phases, while the Devour will not get the update to Android 2.1 at all, which seems to confirm that the handset is being discontinued at Verizon. In Canada, things are less defined, with Android 2.1 "under evaluation" for the Backflip, Dext and Quench. The Milestone will get Android 2.2 in the fall. Europe will see the Milestone get Android 2.2 in the fall, with the Backflip and Dext skipping over Android 2.1 altogether, though when or if they will get Android 2.2 is not yet known.

The release of the software in other markets is detailed in the chart below.
