Rockchip shows off glasses-free 3D tablet

At an event in China on Wednesday, a new prototype tablet was spotted that's capable of displaying 3D images without the need for 3D glasses. Seen by Engadget Chinese, the Supernova X1 was being shown off by Rockchip. Technical specs are non-existent at this time, as are prices or when the device may reach stores.

While the device was playing back Toy Story in 3D, the title had to be converted. How it does this is unknown, but the device can also play regular, 2D content. Rockchip normally makes processors for media players and doesn't often produce them itself, but the design could find its way both into local Chinese players as well as some exports.
