Unlocked Xperia X8 coming to US soon for $300?

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 will soon arrive in the US, according to a Thursday Engadget report. The handset will arrive unlocked and have Android 1.6 preloaded, though heavily customized with Sony Ericsson's own Mediascape and Timescape layers. The fall will see a software update to Android 2.1, however.

The entry-level smartphone otherwise sports a three-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 480x320 and is powered by a 600MHz processor. It also sports a 3.2-megapixel camera, GPS and Wi-Fi, while a 2GB microSDC card would be bundled in the box. HSPA 850MHz and 1,900MHz North American 3G bands are supported, allowing buyers to get plans at AT&T or Canadian carriers.

The handset will ship with a white shell, but other colors will also be available. Exactly when it ships is not known, but relatively soon. A price of under $300 is expected for the unlocked device as well.
