HTC Desire now shipping at US Cellular for $200

US Cellular has acted on its promise to ship the HTC Desire smartphone on Friday. The carrier is the first in the US to offer the Android 2.1-powered device, which sports a 3.7-inch, 800x480 LCD touchscreen (versus the AMOLED of early versions) along with a five-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash.

The device is based on the Nexus One, sharing many of its hardware specs but based on HTC's Sense UI rather than pure Android. This includes the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor along with integrated GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi. US Cellular ships the Desire with an 8GB microSDHC memory card.

The Desire is the second Android handset in US Cellular's lineup, after the Acclaim. The Galaxy S comes in October, with two new LG phones arriving later this year. US Cellular prices the Desire at $200 after a $70 mail-in rebate and on a two-year contract.
