Nikon P7000 and D7000 get Sept launches

A key leak on Friday has pointed to Nikon launching two of its most important cameras for the year in the last two weeks before the Photokina show. The Coolpix P7000 and possibly some more point-and-shoot models should be unveiled September 8, according to Nikon Rumors, while the D7000 DSLR would arrive a week later, on September 15. A 200mm f2 telephoto lens, an unidentified second lens and a new Speedlight flash are also seen coming on the second date.

The P7000 will sit at the high end of mainstream compact cameras with a 7.1X (28-200mm) lens, a higher sensitivity 10-megapixel CCD sensor, RAW photo shooting and 720p video recording. Many expect the D7000 to be more significant as it will use the improved video of the D3100 but with a higher-density sensor and possibly dual card slots.

While its info hasn't been confirmed, the same site accurately intercepted the launch dates for Nikon's releases this month.
