LG unveils high-end LEX8 TV ahead of IFA
LG in the run-up to the IFA show in Germany has brought out a new flagship HDTV. The LEX8 is LG's first TV to use "nano lighting;" the LCD panel is covered in a film with nano-sized dots that spread light more evenly from LED backlights and produce a clearer overall image, according to LG. The set also brings a new form of local LED dimming that can control individual lights to further improve the contrast and accuracy.
Thinness is an extra advantage, LG said. Again due to the LED backlight, the main set is just 0.35 inches thick and has an 0.49-inch bezel that puts more of the focus on the image, not the set.
Appropriate to its focus, the LEX8 has a high-refresh, if unusually timed, 400Hz panel that can support 3D. LG has vowed a set that's useful in bright sunlight and has given the set an anti-reflection layer. As with most of LG's modern sets, it remains very network-aware and supports the usual slate of NetCast features as well as DLNA media sharing. A Magic Motion remote provides a level of mouse-like control over what's in view.
Launch details haven't been provided, but LG may provide more details when IFA opens on Thursday. [via Akihabara]
