Parts and tools store also launched
iFixit has expanded its repair guides with a range of new content geared for game consoles. Users will be able to access free repair manuals for every major game console, with step-by-step instructions alongside thousands of pictures.
To help users address hardware problems, iFixit has also launched a store for game console parts and tools. Current offerings include a large selection of tools and over a hundred parts, although the company plans on building the parts inventory over the next few weeks.
iFixit will dissect five vintage consoles to kick off the new endeavors. Magnavox's Odyssey 100, the first home game console, was the first to be put through a complete teardown. Deconstructing the 35-year-old device reveals a simple, single-board layout utilizing discrete circuitry and several 16-pin Texas Instrument integrated circuits.
