Sony Ericsson outs first TD-SCDMA phone for China

Sony Ericsson as unveiled a new Android-powered handset for China on Tuesday. The A8i was developed in conjunction with China Mobile, and is the first to support that carrier's TD-SCDMA network. Android is customized with China Mobile's own Open Mobile System (OMS) 2.0 and users interface using a 3.5-inch, 854x480 touchscreen.

The phone is likely to be based on the Xperia X8, though its hardware differs. It gets a five-megapixel camera and supports China's CMMB mobile TV. It has Bluetooth 2.1 and contains SE's TrackID app that is linked to China Mobile's music download service. An FM radio is integrated as well, as is assisted GPS.

Though prices weren't revealed, the A8i is due to arrive in China in October in both black or white.
