Blu-ray 3D update for PS3 delated until October

The software update that would endow the PS3 with 3D Blu-ray playback capabilities scheduled for release in September has been pushed back to October. The announcement was made at a pre-IFA press event on Wednesday by Sony CEO Howard Stringer, and also included mention of 3D bundles that include Alice in Wonderland 3D and Michael Jackson's This Is It: 3D Enhanced Edition. The Green Hornet and Spiderman 3D titles are also due to come out on 3D sometime in the next year, after their theatrical releases.

Sony has recently began offering the all-terrain racing game MotorStorm 3D Rift on its PlayStation Store, which can be played in 3D as long as users have firmware 3.30 or newer loaded onto their console. Limited forms of other games have also received the 3D treatment.

During the speech, Sony also confirmed that a Google TV-powered device is coming to the US before year's end.
