HTC HD3 due in October as the HD7 with WP7?

The upcoming HTC HD3 smartphone that will succeed the HD2 may just be renamed to HD7, in order to better match its Windows Phone 7 operating system. According to an Engadget leak, the name popped up on an internal document from UK provider O2. It also reveals a launch date of October 18 for the device.

The HD3 or HD7 is expected to be upgraded in order to meet Microsoft's requirements for WP7 devices. It already has a 1GHz processor and a capacitve touchscreen, but the control scheme violated Microsoft's three-button rule for the interface. It may also be refreshed to stay competitive with newer hardware.
